GACA Releases New Travel Guide As Saudi Arabia Resumes International Travel


Riyadh: The civil aviation authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia updated the travel guide on Monday outlining more precautionary measures against COVID-19, the Saudi press agency reported.

The travel guide issued by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GACA) coincided with the resumption of international travel from May 17.

The guide includes the procedures previously applied in addition to new preventive measures, in connection with the authorization to travel abroad according to the special procedures for this step.

The new version highlighted several recent metrics for travelers, including:

  • The obligation to make a request on the Tawakkalna application at the entrance to the airport.
  • Travel in the categories authorized to travel and in accordance with the requirements set by the competent authorities.
  • Entrance to the airport is reserved for holders of transport tickets, with the exception of people accompanying disabled people.
  • It is necessary to ensure that the sanitary requirements applied at the intended destination are followed with all precautionary measures.
  • The guide urged travelers to get to the airport well before flight time and check their health before entering airport lounges.
  • Travelers whose body temperature exceeds 38 degrees Celsius will not be able to enter the airport.
  • The guide encourages the use of electronic means of payment and the reduction of the use of banknotes.
  • Commitment to board planes according to the seats allocated by airlines and to apply physical distancing between other passengers.
  • According to the guide, all crew and passengers inside the aircraft are required to wear masks and gloves for the duration of the flight, in order to maintain social distancing as much as possible, while providing meals and d ‘other services.
  • Prayer areas on planes, if any, should be closed.

The updated guide addressed the steps taken in the event of a suspected infection with the COVID-19 virus, including the allocation of certain seats as a quarantine area to deal with potential emergencies during the flight, and the appointment of ” a crew member to treat and reduce the patient and limit movement as much as possible.

On arrival, the patient’s baggage is delivered in accordance with the procedures followed, it must be transferred to the hospital.
