Building on the renewed popularity of the ’90s hit sitcom Friends, a New Jersey-based travel agency hosted a Cruise with fan friends at sea sail next spring on the Celebrity Equinox.
Departing on May 15, 2022, 500 fans of the show will be able to sail together on a week-long sailing from Fort Lauderdale dubbed “The One When They Cruised”, and take part in friends-themed events, such as a “Dress as a” Your Favorite Friend “activity, quizzes and cooking demonstrations.
The website advertises the cruise as a chance to “eat like Joey, joke like Chandler, cook like Monica, shop like Rachel, do yoga like Phoebe and dig like Ross”.
Hosted by Fana World Travel, which says the sailing is Friends fans first cruise, the ship will visit Key West, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
The sitcom, which ran from 1994 to 2004, has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years when it aired on Netflix in 2018, becoming one of the most-watched shows on the platform, and then to new when it switched to HBO Max last summer. The May 29 HBO Max special, “Friends: The Reunion,” was streamed by about 29% of US households when it launched, according to Variety.
“We love the Friends TV show and wanted to give fans the opportunity to connect and make new friends with like-minded people,” said Farah Samoo, co-founder of Fana World Travel. “The meeting of friends made us more determined to make it happen.”
The cruise has no formal affiliation with the television show.
