Trump hotels dumped by luxury travel agency network Virtuoso – four years after touting them

A luxury travel booking agency quietly removed all Trump hotel and resort listings from its elite “invitation-only” services earlier this month, it has been revealed.

Virtuoso Travel, a Texas-based agency specializing in luxury and experiential vacations, has abandoned all former President Donald Trump’s hotels that were considered partners, Zenger news revealed.

The agency had considered six of Trump’s 10 partner hotels in its Virtuoso network, which offers travelers perks, VIP treatment and special access, Washington post reported. It was not immediately clear which six hotels were previously listed by the company, which has since removed them from the website.

Virtuoso previously promoted his ties to the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC before it opened in 2016, according to a Press release at the time, claiming he would join “our nation’s esteemed benchmarks.”

Besides the DC Hotel, Trump owns six other hotels in North America: Albemarle Estate in Charlottesville, Virginia; Trump International Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Waikiki, Hawaii; National Doral in Miami; and Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago and New York.

Trump also owns the Macleod House & Lodge in Scotland; the Trump Turnberry, also in Scotland; and Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Ireland.

“Trump Hotels is no longer part of the Virtuoso network,” Virtuoso spokesperson Misty Belles said in a statement obtained by outlets.

“We take into account many variables when considering participation in existing and new networks. Out of respect for all parties involved, and as a general policy, we do not share comments regarding our non-renewal and exit decisions. ‘

DailyMail.com has contacted Trump Organization for comment.

Virtuoso previously promoted his ties to the Trump International Hotel, which will soon open in Washington, DC in April 2016, according to a Press release at the time.

The hotel opened in the historic Old Washington Post Office on Pennsylvania Avenue in September 2016

The converted historic building has been “restored far beyond its original grandeur” and includes Ivanka Trump’s spa.

The company said that customers who booked their stay through one of its 20,000 luxury travel advisors Would get “exclusive perks,” including a room upgrade, a daily full breakfast for two, and a $ 100 spa credit, among other perks.

However, the DC Hotel has experienced financial difficulties since it opened and attempts to sell the property have been repeatedly delayed, Forbes reported.

The hotel also received backlash after apparently raising prices earlier this month when QAnon conspiracy theorists believed Trump would be relocated to the White House during a March 4 inauguration, Zenger News noted.

Forbes reported that Trump’s hotel management and licensing activities have fallen by $ 24 million since 2019, and his golf resorts have lost another $ 120 million.

Trump’s business could take another hit after he leaves Virtuoso, which is one of the most prestigious network affiliations for luxury hotels.

Chekitan Dev, professor in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, told the Washington Post that Virtuoso is “one of the most important, well-known and influential third-party distribution channels, especially for hotels. luxury”.

“Getting fired by Virtuoso is a very big deal as hotels or hotel brands lose exposure to a vast network of agents who are highly qualified to book deals for their most demanding and wealthy clients who are usually travelers too. frequent, ”Dev mentioned.

Forbes noted that two hotels with old ties to Trump remain in Virtuoso’s network.

Trump licensed his name for the David Rockwell-designed Trump SoHo, a 391-room New York City condo hotel, which dropped its affiliation with him in 2017 and renamed The Dominick.

The 65-story St. Regis Toronto, part of Marriott’s portfolio, was previously called Trump International Hotel and Tower Toronto under a license agreement.

However, his name was withdrawn when investor lawsuits bankrupted the hotel developer, Forbes reported.
